
Shepway Cross
At the eastern end of the village, the Shepway Cross is a war memorial erected in 1923, dedicated to the bravery of the men of the Cinque Ports. Set on a four step octagonal base. Its octagonal tapering shaft is surmounted by crucifix with Christ flanked by the Virgin Mary and Apostle John on one side and Virgin and Child on the other. The monument is surrounded by a low stone rubble wall with angled corners. The Foundation stone laid by William 7th Earl Beauchamp and Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports and Admiral in 1923. The rededication of Shepway Cross in 2018
The cross was a gift from the Earl Beauchamp on land donated by the owner of Lympne Castle. SHAL was involved in the cleaning of the monument for its re-dedication in 2018.
